Friends from way back—Le Picardie 16–7/8 oz and 10–3/8 oz
I'm too old to spend my time writing reviews for free, but I'm making an exception because I want Duralex to keep making Le Picardie glasses forever. I'd been using Le Picardie tumblers for decades and only had a few left—scuffed and scratched, probably from stirring thousands of servings of Ovaltine. Over the years I have bought good tempered glassware from a handful of French and U.S. makers, but only the Duralex Picardies have survived long enough to get to looking so worn. My new place has a small kitchen, so I got rid of glassware that I didn't love and got more of what I do love. I replenished my sets of Le Picardie glasses—16–7/8 oz and 10–3/8 oz. I have a couple of the 8–3/8 oz size left, but I personally find that size less useful so I didn't buy more of those. In my mind, the 16–7/8 Picardie is the quintessential beer glass. The elegantly simple shape is as friendly as a handshake and serious as a good chef's knife. This tall version of Le Picardie is not only attractive; long experience shows it is practical and ergonomic as well. A tall glass that is too cylindrical can slosh me in the face if I'm not careful, but never so with the polite and accommodating Picardie. There are countless shapes that can work fine for small, lightweight glasses, but a large, sturdy glass that does everything well is a treasure I want to hang onto. No other glass shows off a fluffy-headed beer better than this generously-sized classic. It is also my preferred large tumbler for a milk shake, iced tea, or any large drink. I like the smaller Picardies mainly because they match the large model, but the 10–3/8 version is a pleasure to drink from as well. It is an excellent cold-brewed coffee or on-the-rocks glass (though a bit taller than the norm). Conveniently, the mouth is almost the same diameter as the 16–7/8ths mouth, so the two sizes can stack interchangeably. My kitchen is short on cabinet space, so I prefer the 10–3/8 oz to the 8–3/8 oz version for this reason. If you try out Le Picardie, don't be surprised if you stick with this style for decades.
Classics
I love France so why not have the glasses that I experience so often in sidewalk cafes? These are light and durable. I have multiple sizes 16, 12 and 8 ounces. The 12 ounce is my favorite size. I love that I can drink hot tea out them as well as ice cold drinks.
Great size and look
Wonderful. Nice looking glasses that seem sturdy. So far no chips after a couple of weeks of use and dishwasher runs.
Difficult to match glass sizes I already have.
I love Duralex glasses, specifically the Picardie tumblers, but the measurements you list are not accurate, which means I have bought glasses that don’t match the glasses I already have. Do better.
The glasses are exactly what I wanted, except that I didn’t check the ounces that the glasses hold, not a juice glass, it’s a shot glass. Useless.
